An 18-year-old has found himself entangled with the law, facing serious charges after a series of crimes in southwest Atlanta, according to local authorities. FOX 5 Atlanta reports that Kortez Ragland has been charged with felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The altercation, which reportedly led to gunfire on September 23 at 875 Metropolitan Parkway SW, left two males with gunshot wounds. The unnamed victim was declared dead at the scene. Ragland, who was already being held on unrelated charges in Fulton County Jail, became a suspect in the shooting incident.
Compounding his legal troubles, Ragland, along with 24-year-old Kentraevious Hunter, is accused of an armed robbery that occurred on November 23. WSB-TV reported that officers arrested Hunter after finding him on Joseph E. Lowery Blvd. SW, while a hint of cologne betrayed Ragland's hiding place in a crawl space on Euharlee St. SW. The police were able to locate the suspect, so to speak, thanks to the unexpected assistance from his scent.
Officials have not yet released the current condition of the second shooting victim, who was initially reported in stable condition following the September 23 altercation. Police have also not disclosed the details of the verbal dispute that led to the fatal shooting. However, law enforcement has confirmed that the investigations into both the shooting and an armed robbery are ongoing.
According to the FOX 5 Atlanta report, the charges Ragland faces in connection to the armed robbery include aggravated assault, armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and obstruction.
