A suspect was apprehended following the shooting of a teenager in Portland on Friday evening, leading to a standoff with police tactical teams. The Portland Police Bureau reported that officers were dispatched to the 5000 block of North Vancouver Avenue at approximately 6:27 P.M. after they received a call about a shooting incident. Upon their arrival, they found a 17-year-old male victim with gunshot wounds and provided emergency first aid until paramedics arrived and transported him to the hospital.
The Portland Police Bureau's news release states that the teenager's injuries are not expected to be life-threatening. During the initial investigation, officers were informed that an adult female suspect may have been hiding in a nearby apartment. After confirming her location, officers established a perimeter around the apartment, but the suspect initially failed to comply with their commands.
The Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were subsequently called to assist. After a period of negotiation, the suspect surrendered to the officers at the scene. The name of the adult female has not been released as she awaits charges in connection with the shooting. Both SERT and CNT were then released from the scene following the suspect's arrest.
The situation has resulted in ongoing investigations as the Portland Police Bureau continues to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident.
