A teenage boy was shot and wounded on the west side of Indianapolis over the weekend, in an incident that has now spurred an ongoing investigation by local law enforcement.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) reports that officers arrived at the 1400 block of Gerrard Drive near the intersection of Plainfield Avenue and South Lynhurst Drive at around 9 p.m. on Saturday, following reports of a shooting. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was found with gunshot wounds but is currently in stable condition and expected to recover, according to FOX59.

An argument between the teenager and an occupant of a vehicle escalated, resulting in gunfire, as WIBC reported. The IMPD is actively searching for evidence and trying to obtain surveillance footage to aid in identifying the suspect's vehicle.

While the search for the shooter continues, authorities do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the community. IMPD Capt. Rob Rider emphasized that the incident seems to be an isolated case, "At some point, police say a shot was fired from that vehicle, striking the victim," Rider told WTHR. The public is encouraged to provide any available information to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
