A fatal collision occurred yesterday in Lake County, leaving one woman dead and another injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The head-on crash happened on County Road 33 near Soto Road in Groveland shortly after noon. As reported by ClickOrlando, a Chevrolet HHR, driven by a 36-year-old woman from Leesburg, failed to maintain her lane and collided with a Ford Fusion.
The crash investigation outlined by the FHP, as detailed by WFTV, suggests that the HHR was heading southbound when the driver crossed the opposing lane. "Investigators said she entered into the direct path of the sedan and the vehicles collided head-on." Both drivers were promptly rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where the Leesburg woman succumbed to her injuries. It was noted that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The 43-year-old woman from Mascotte, driving the Ford Fusion, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the same medical facility by first responders. Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash.
