The incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. Monday, when the Madison Police Department received calls of an active shooter at the school. The suspected shooter, identified as a juvenile and a student at the school, was also found dead, believed to have died by suicide, police said.
During the police response, officers did not need to fire their weapons, and they soon discovered that the suspect, who was carrying a handgun, was already deceased on site. Clarifying earlier reports that mistakenly stated five had been killed, Madison Police Chief Shon F. Barnes confirmed the death of two individuals—a teenage student and a teacher, according to a WGN-TV report.
