A shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, has left two dead—a teacher and a student—and six others injured, as per local police reports. The incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. Monday, when the Madison Police Department received calls of an active shooter at the school. Upon arrival, officers found multiple victims with gunshot wounds, as reported by NBC Chicago. The suspected shooter, identified as a juvenile and a student at the school, was also found dead, believed to have died by suicide, police said.
During the police response, officers did not need to fire their weapons, and they soon discovered that the suspect, who was carrying a handgun, was already deceased on site. Clarifying earlier reports that mistakenly stated five had been killed, Madison Police Chief Shon F. Barnes confirmed the death of two individuals—a teenage student and a teacher, according to a WGN-TV report. The current state of the investigation is active and ongoing, to provide further information as it becomes available.
Chief Barnes expressed concern for the victims, highlighting the long-lasting impact of such traumatic events. "But these are just the physical injuries we know about," Barnes said. "There will be other injuries that we have to face for a very, very long time," as stated by WGN-TV. As the investigation ensues, local authorities have requested that the public stay clear of the area surrounding the school.
