A shootout, sparked by a custody dispute, resulted in injuries to an adult and a child in Pleasant Hill, with law enforcement making two arrests. According to a social media post from the Pleasant Hill Police Department, the incident unfolded yesterday, around midday, at the intersection of Contra Costa Blvd and Vivian Dr.
The police were alerted to gunfire and arrived promptly, locating three involved vehicles, Larry NEAL, driving one of the cars, had been hit by a bullet in his hand, and a 7-year-old child in another vehicle suffered minor injuries, both of which were treated and subsequently released from local medical facilities. The genesis of the violence lies in a quarrel between the parents of the wounded child. This situation escalated, resulting in an exchange of gunfire between the parents that was not random but a focused burst of violence bred from familial discord. After the incident, an area of Contra Costa Blvd was temporarily sealed off to traffic, which caused disruptions, but it has since been reopened for public use.
Authorities apprehended two individuals. Alexis SIDNEY, 38, from Brentwood, was charged with child endangerment and shooting at an occupied vehicle, and Larry NEAL, 27, also hailing from Antioch Brentwood, faces similar child endangerment charges, with the added weight of being a convicted felon found in possession of a firearm. The pair are currently detained at the Martinez Detention Facility.
