A tragic head-on collision in Springfield Township has claimed the lives of two men. The crash occurred on Thursday afternoon, around 4:30 p.m., according to Springfield Township police. As reported by WLWT, a grey Toyota Sienna and a black Mercedes SUV collided in the 9600 block of Daly Road. The force of the crash set the Toyota Sienna ablaze.
Jim Schneider, 55, from Cincinnati, was the driver of the Mercedes SUV and was declared dead at the scene. Christopher Larkins, 41, of Springfield Township, drove the Toyota and was later pronounced dead at University of Cincinnati Medical Center, the Springfield Township Police shared. Witnesses told authorities that they observed Larkins's vehicle lose control and drift left of center, leading to the fatal collision. Responders found the vehicles in flames, and distressingly, neither driver appeared to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
Speed has been identified as a potential contributing factor in the catastrophe, reported FOX19. The incident is under active investigation, with officials working alongside the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office to conduct a toxicology report to assess whether impairment was involved.
As reported by WCPO, the Springfield Township community is now faced with two fewer souls among its populace due to a moment's loss of control and, perhaps, a disregard for traffic laws designed to protect. The police are urging anyone with information regarding the crash to come forward and contact the Springfield Township police at 513-729-1300. An unintended testament to the precariousness of life, the accident serves as a grim reminder of the fragility of our daily commutes.
