
A tragic incident unfolded on County Road 42 at the intersection of Penley Lane in Altoona, where a collision between two vehicles resulted in the death of a 45-year-old Umatilla man. The fatal crash, which occurred yesterday afternoon around 3:04 p.m., involved a 2018 Honda Accord and a 2021 GMC Sierra, as ClickOrlando reported.
According to reports by the Florida Highway Patrol, the Honda Accord was traveling westbound, approaching Penley Lane, when it veered into the eastbound lane and directly into the path of the GMC Sierra. The Accord and the truck collided, leaving the man, a passenger in the Accord, severely injured, and consequently, he was pronounced dead at Waterman Hospital. The driver of the Honda, a 42-year-old Umatilla woman, sustained serious injuries, while the driver of the GMC, a 54-year-old Altoona man, did not incur any injuries.
In the aftermath of the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol stated that the road was blocked at the crash site, causing disruptions in traffic flow as investigations commenced, as WFTV reported.
