A shooting at a Walmart in Halls has resulted in the arrest of a Union County man on Friday afternoon last week. The incident, which escalated from a verbal altercation to a physical confrontation, ended with the suspect, 23-year-old Joshua Bailey of Luttrell, discharging a firearm and wounding another individual. According to WVLT, Bailey and the victim had a history of conflict that quickly became violent.
Bailey, who has been charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment involving a deadly weapon, told authorities he had intended to get tires for his vehicle before the confrontation with the victim in the store's automotive section. The altercation had evidently moved to the grocery side of the store, where Bailey ended up pulling a gun and firing a single shot, hitting the victim in the hip. Law enforcement responded to the scene shortly after 4 p.m., and the victim was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, as reported by WATE.
Witnesses played a critical role in the incident’s aftermath, with bystanders intervening to secure the weapon after the shot was discharged. This led to Bailey's detention prior to police arrival. A person on the scene also captured video footage of the encounter, which has now become part of the evidence collected by authorities, as per details from a WBIR report.
A spokesperson for Walmart, Kelly Hellbusch, remarked, “Violence like this is unacceptable. We’re working with police as they investigate,” as noted by WVLT. Bailey is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
