Last Wednesday afternoon, a routine day at Nut Tree Plaza took an unexpected turn when Vacaville Police were alerted by community members to a suspected shoplifter at Ulta. The man, identified as 32-year-old Jesse Carl Robinson of Vacaville, was seen leaving the store just as police arrived. He fit the description given by the witnesses, who said they had seen him stuffing his pockets with merchandise inside the store.
The officers contacted Robinson nearby after a store employee affirmed that he had attempted to steal items, though the employees at Ulta had successfully retrieved the goods. However, upon further investigation, the officers found that Robinson had narcotics and paraphernalia, adding substance to the charges. In an attempt to mislead the police, he provided a false name, date of birth, and address that belonged to a family member. According to the Vacaville Police Department's social media post, a check of Robinson's fingerprints uncovered his actual identity, and it came to light that he had three outstanding warrants for his arrest with over $60k in bail, two for misdemeanors related to theft and a third, a felony warrant for burglary and grand theft.
Robinson's supposed run-of-the-mill shoplifting incident at Ulta thus snowballed into a more grievous scenario lined with past and present criminal offenses, ultimately leading to his arrest on multiple counts, including the attempt at theft from Ulta, the narcotics found in his possession, the false impersonation charge, and the outstanding warrants. He has been booked into the Solano County Jail.
