New Orleans experienced a wave of violence over the holiday weekend, with a series of shootings that left three dead and several others wounded in different incidents across the city. According to NOLA, two fatalities occurred in the 6700 block of Tara Lane yesterday afternoon, when two men were shot and pronounced dead at the scene around 4:25 p.m.
Further, violence unfolded on Canal Street with two shootings were reported, leaving two injured. The first occurred around 7:30 p.m. in the 500 block, and the second approximately an hour later around 8:45 p.m. in the 900 block. Victims from both incidents were taken to the hospital; however, no suspects have been named, as highlighted in a report by WWLTV.
In addition to the fatalities and injuries on Canal Street, another shooting occurred in the Little Woods neighborhood at around 9 p.m. in the 8900 block of Bunker Hill Drive. As reported by WWLTV, one man was found with multiple gunshot wounds. The police stated a second man was also injured in this incident, and both individuals were transported to receive medical attention.
Moving into early Sunday morning, the violence seemed not to abate. The 700 block of Canal Street saw more upheaval with four people being shot amidst the backdrop of downtown New Orleans, as crowded streets were striped with crime scene tape.
