Wellpoint Care Network has once again joined forces with the Milwaukee Diaper Mission to host their second annual "Diapers for Dads" event. The distribution, which took place on Friday, had one goal in mind—aiding fathers in the Milwaukee area who face difficulties in providing for their little ones, according to FOX6Now.
Wellpoint's Community Engagement Coordinator Andrew Bonner IV said, "Just because you are single doesn't necessarily mean you can't have struggles or have barriers they have to overcome as well, so breaking that stigma of ‘a single father is able to handle it.’ No, they need help just as single mothers need help," Fox6Now reports.
The event focused on distributing diapers and offering resources for fathers navigating parenthood, with the goal of reaching over 100 families this year, according to TMJ4. Last year, nearly 19,000 diapers were collected and given to dads in need.
"A father came in from last year earlier today and he let us know that he actually got full custody of his child through some of the resources that we had available last year, which just made my heart happy, because if I can help at least one father I feel like I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing," Bonner IV told CBS58.
While the annual event has a designated time for distribution, Wellpoint Care Network accepts diaper donations throughout the year, suggesting a sustained effort to support fathers beyond just a one-day event. This year's "Diapers for Dads" proved more successful, with donations surpassing initial expectations and potentially doubling the number of benefitted families compared to last year, as per CBS58.
