A tumultuous scene unfolded in Stoughton, Massachusetts, when a woman was accused of intentionally crashing her car into another vehicle, causing it to collide with a building, and further attacking the vehicle with a pipe. This act of violence took place yesterday afternoon and resulted in serious injuries to the driver of the second car.
Stoughton Police Department officers were called to the 200 block of Canton Street at approximately 3:45 p.m., where they reportedly found 44-year-old Erin McElroy of West Bridgewater having rear-ended another vehicle. In a statement obtained by NBC Boston, authorities allege that McElroy proceeded to get out of her car post-collision and to repeatedly strike the other vehicle with a metal pipe.
The victim of this attack was taken to Boston Medical Center in a serious condition, prompting police to detain McElroy at the scene. Subsequently, she was brought to Good Samaritan Medical Center for evaluation. Following the initial charges of malicious damage to property, negligent operation, and disturbing the peace, the Stoughton Police noted that additional charges may be forthcoming.
Upon her arrest, McElroy faces several criminal charges related to the incident. "A preliminary investigation determined that following the crash, McElroy got out of her car and struck the other vehicle involved several times with a metal pipe," Stoughton Police Chief Donna McNamara told WHDH News. The arraignment for McElroy is scheduled for Tuesday in Stoughton District Court, as law enforcement tends to closely investigate the full extent of the lawbreaking incident.
