Suzanne Berry, the principal of Wynnebrook Elementary School in West Palm Beach, was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) on a Friday night last week in Boynton Beach. The incident took an unusual turn when Berry allegedly followed a man to the steps of the city's police station.
The saga began on I-95 at the Lantana interchange when, according to CBS12, the man noticed Berry's vehicle merging onto the exit ramp simultaneously with his, drawing dangerously close and subsequently flashing its headlights. The alarmed driver bypassed his exit in a bid for safety, and, with Berry in relentless pursuit, headed for the Boynton Beach police station.
When law enforcement arrived, Berry, 47, was found disoriented behind the wheel of a Chrysler 200. She claimed to be reporting a man for aggressive driving and brake-checking her, but officers noticed her slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. Despite stating she had only had a sip of alcohol at a bar with colleagues, sobriety tests confirmed her impairment. Berry's refusal to provide a breath sample led to an 18-month suspension of her driver's license.
After the arrest, the School District of Palm Beach County informed families and staff of Wynnebrook Elementary about the situation. Central Regional Superintendent Valerie Zuloaga-Haines emailed that Berry "was arrested on charges unrelated to the school," as per CBS12 report.
Berry was booked in Boynton Beach around 1:30 a.m. and posted her $1,000 bail five hours later, as reported by WPBF.
