Wind Creek Chicago Southland Awarded State's 16th Casino License, IGB Fuels Illinois' Gaming and Sports Wagering GrowthSource: Wind Creek Chicago Southland

The Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) has wrapped up its final meeting of 2024 by awarding a new casino owners' license to Wind Creek IL LLC, operating under the name Wind Creek Chicago Southland in Homewood and East Hazel Crest. Administrator Marcus D. Fruchter highlighted the addition as the state's 16th casino and the sixth one licensed since the 2019 expansion legislation. According to a press release, the IGB's licenses have generated over $386 million in upfront gaming fees, contributing to the Rebuild Illinois fund for infrastructure projects.

Furthermore, Walker's Bluff Casino Resort, LLC, now holds a Master Sports Wagering License, pairing with Hillside (Illinois) LLC, doing business as bet365, which received a Management Services Provider License. This collaboration paves the way for both retail and online sportsbook operations at Walker's Bluff, subject to remaining regulatory hurdles and approval. The board's productivity included issuing and denying various occupational and gaming licenses, with over 250 level 2 and 3 occupational casino licenses approved and three occupational licenses denied.

In video gaming, the IGB took multiple actions during the session, from licensing new locations and technical operators to rescinding previous denials and handling non-renewals. The sports wagering sector also saw advancements with over 200 level 2 occupational license approvals and two significant sports wagering supplier licenses awarded to Hillside entities associated with bet365. "The work achieved thus far in 2024 would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the Board and our staff," Fruchter said in the recent meeting.

Administrative reminders included the ongoing call for public comment on the development of a Self-Exclusion Program for video gaming and cashless wagering technology. The commentary period remains open until January 13, 2025, and input can be submitted via the IGB's website. Also noted was the next regular meeting, scheduled for February 6, 2025, indicating continued regulatory progress in the new year.

With the expansion of gaming options, resources for problem gambling are stressed by the board. The IGB encourages individuals and families affected by gambling addiction to utilize the Self-Exclusion Program and seek assistance through the Are You Really Winning - Illinois Helpline or by reaching out to the helpline directly. For support, affected parties can call 1-800-GAMBLER or text GAMB to 833234 for counseling and referral services.
