A tragic sequence of events occured Thursday evening on Interstate 270, as reported by First Alert 4, resulting in the death of a 42-year-old woman and injuries to two others, including a 4-year-old boy. The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed that the collision occurred near Page Avenue on the eastbound lanes, south of MO 364 at around 6:30 p.m. The highway patrol also stated that the woman was killed after another vehicle crashed into hers while it was stopped.
Adding to the chaos, Fox 2 Now detailed that a fiery crash led to the closure of all northbound lanes at the intersection with Missouri Route 364. Traffic crept along as it was diverted to Olive Boulevard. Amidst this, an overturned car at Ladue Avenue was involved in yet another mishap, exacerbating the already heavy congestion.
The disruption to traffic was extensive, with KSDK reporting that drivers had to rely on a slow passage through the right shoulder, and detours were in place at Olive Boulevard. The lanes were originally blocked to facilitate the investigation of the crash by a reconstruction team from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The driver of the vehicle that collided with the woman's car was reported to have been injured and was taken to Mercy Hospital, with First Alert 4. The 4-year-old boy, caught in the unfortunate event, was in the woman’s car and was also rushed to the hospital for his injuries. After about three and a half hours of intense efforts and investigations, the lanes of I-270 were reopened around 10 p.m., alleviating the extended delay for countless commuters.
While the length of the blockage was not immediately known, a subsequent update from the Missouri State Highway Patrol X account associated with Troop C informed the public that traffic resumed normal flow after the reopening of the lanes. The investigation into the precise cause of the accident is ongoing, with authorities piecing together the circumstances that led to this unfortunate and fatal incident.
