A fatal shooting in Chelsea has prompted a police search for a suspect who reportedly killed a woman outside of a hotel. The incident occurred early this morning in a crosswalk outside the TownePlace Suites by Marriott.
Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden was quoted saying, "Investigators responded to the area around Marginal Street and Central Avenue around 8:45 a.m. after several witnesses reported seeing a woman in her early 30s shot by a man while they were walking in a crosswalk outside the TownePlace Suites by Marriott," as reported by Boston 25 News. The suspect, a man believed to also be in his early 30s, fled the scene and remains at large.
The victim was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Hayden has indicated the man and woman appeared to have known each other because they were walking together at the time of the shooting. "The shooting is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no reason the public should be concerned," Hayden stated, as noted by Boston 25 News. According to 7NEWS, no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
Police have implemented road closures in the area as part of the investigation. Chelsea police announced that Pearl Street at Marginal Street is closed, with traffic being detoured onto Pearl Street. Marginal Street is also closed at Willow Street, with traffic detoured onto Willow Street, and at Central Avenue, where traffic is being detoured right onto Central Avenue, as per the details obtained by Boston 25 News.
