Early Tuesday, a domestic argument turned into a gunfight when an intruder forcefully entered a home in the South Side of Chicago and began shooting, resulting in a woman being wounded. The incident occurred around 5:10 a.m. in the Washington Park neighborhood on the 6200 block of South King Drive. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, both the woman and a man, both 26 years old,  were present in the home when an acquaintance of theirs burst into the residence.

The confrontation quickly escalated after the home invader started to openly fire, prompting the man, who police confirmed has a valid firearm owner’s identification card and a concealed carry license, to swiftly return fire. Fox 32 Chicago reported that during the shootout, the woman sustained a gunshot wound to her right thigh. She was subsequently transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center and is reportedly in good condition.

Following the gunfire exchange, no other injuries have been reported. The aggressor fled the scene and, as of the latest updates, remains at large with no arrests made. Despite the chaos and the early morning hour of the incident, the gunfire did not result in any additional casualties or neighborhood bystanders being injured.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the violent entry and the subsequent gunfight. As the attacker evaded capture, Area 2 detectives are working to possibly piece together to ultimately locate and apprehend the suspect. No further details regarding the motive or the history between the individuals involved have been released thus far.
