A 13-year-old pedestrian was left with major injuries after a collision with a refuse truck on Niles Ave in San Bruno, authorities say. The incident occurred yesterday at approximately 3:30 p.m. on the 1400 block of the street, prompting a swift response from local police officers and firefighters. The San Bruno Police Department states that the victim received immediate medical treatment before being transported to a local hospital.
The driver of the garbage truck, identified as a 37-year-old Watsonville resident, stayed at the scene and is said to have cooperated with authorities in their investigation, which thus far indicates alcohol and narcotics were not a factor in the incident. The ongoing investigation is within the hands of the San Bruno Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team.
