In West Ridge, five individuals' lives intersected with sudden and violent force. A 14-year-old boy now lies in critical condition after a two-vehicle collision occurred on the Northwest Side, according to Chicago police. The incident unfolded around 12:15 a.m. Thursday, when a yellow sedan, headed north in the 6300 block of North Albany Avenue, ran a red light, resulting in a collision with a black SUV at the intersection of Rosemont Avenue.

The young boy, occupying the rear passenger seat of the SUV, sustained "body trauma" and was subsequently rushed to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, as the Chicago Sun-Times reported. Another passenger, a 15-year-old girl also in the SUV, was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital bearing stiffness, and bruising, though she is reported to be in good condition. The SUV's driver, a 56-year-old man, complaining of pain, and a 48-year-old female passenger were both taken to St. Francis in good condition for further assessment.

The 25-year-old man driving the yellow car, sustaining only minor scratches, was transported to Lutheran General Hospital where his condition remained stable. CBS Chicago notes that a 17-year-old passenger in the yellow sedan chose to refuse medical services following the crash. Police have reportedly issued citations to the 25-year-old driver and the Major Accidents Investigations Unit has been appointed to probe into the details of the incident.

The collision, resulting in the deployment of airbags in both the striking and struck vehicles, prompted an immediate response from emergency services, who arrived to provide medical aid and to secure the scene, reveals CBS Chicago.
