Following a vehicular chase that ended in a crash and a foot pursuit, the Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed the arrest of an 18-year-old man in connection with a stolen car incident in Southwest, D.C. According to the official news release from the MPDC, on Wednesday evening, officers from the First District Crime Suppression Team engaged a suspicious vehicle in the 1500 block of South Capitol Street, Southwest. The car fled but eventually crashed in the 100 block of T Street, Southeast.
Investigations trace the stolen vehicle back to the 800 block of Maine Avenue, Southwest, and additional items in the suspect's possession linked him to property taken from other parked cars at that location. The young man identified as Jaylen Young from Southwest, D.C., did not manage to evade the police for long and was arrested shortly after abandoning the crashed vehicle. As per a statement made by the MPDC, Young faces multiple charges including Theft One (Stolen Auto), No Permit, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Leaving After Colliding, and Fleeing from Law Enforcement, among others.
The police department emphasizes that this case remains under active investigation, and they are seeking additional information. As part of its ongoing efforts to reduce violent crimes in the area, the MPD offers rewards of up to $1,000 for tips that lead to an arrest and conviction.
