In the early morning hours of Sunday, a rupture in a water pipe forced around 400 seniors from their homes at the Patrick Sullivan Apartments on the Near West Side of Chicago. According to FOX 32 Chicago, the disruption occurred just before 1:00 a.m., with police and fire department officials responding to the scene to assist with evacuations.
The burst pipe, which occurred in the 1600 block of West Madison Street, resulted in widespread displacement as residents were urgently moved from the premises. Some were taken to The Congress Plaza Hotel for temporary shelter, FOX 32 Chicago explains. Amidst this upheaval, two seniors, ages 70 and 84, were transported to a hospital to address non-life-threatening injuries that had arisen during the incident.
Video from the scene showed the considerable efforts undertaken to evacuate the seniors, with footage capturing both water being pumped out of the building and residents being guided onto CTA buses. This part of the painful yet necessary procession was highlighted by ABC 7 Chicago, which reported on the multi-agency response to the urgent situation.
