Earlier yesterday, a disturbance unfolded at a Steak ‘n Shake located in the 1200 block of Hampton, prompting a police investigation. District 2 officers reported that the incident involved a group of individuals and several restaurant employees. Around 3 a.m., after an employee requested the group to refrain from smoking indoors, tensions spiked leading to an argument, then quickly spiraled into physical confrontation, according to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
Caught in the crossfire of the situation, which resulted from the employees' attempt to enforce the restaurant's no-smoking policy, some individuals in the group leapt aggressively over the sales counter and into the cooking area. In response, other employees tried to contain the aggression, struggling with those who hurled objects at them. With the location fled, a male suspect managed to punch two employees during the skirmish, as reported by the investigation.
Despite the melee, no serious injuries were reported and none of the employees or patrons appeared to need medical attention post-incident. The suspects involved in the altercation made their exit from the Steak ‘n Shake before law enforcement arrived and remain at large.
