Chaos ensued on the roads of Arizona's East Valley last Thursday when what appeared to start as a hit-and-run turned into a dangerous road rage incident ending in gunfire. According to reports by FOX 10 Phoenix, the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) stated that an initial collision on the Loop 202 near Scottsdale Road quickly escalated as the victim's pursuit of the suspect's vehicle led to State Route 87, near McDowell Road, where the suspects are accused of firing shots at the pursuing vehicle.
No injuries were reported from the shooting incident. The DPS detailed that the suspects', after their brief but dangerous confrontation, bailed out of their vehicle "a mile south of Shea Boulevard on State Route 87" and proceeded to haphazardly run into the desert. This prompted the section of the highway to be closed while an urgent manhunt began to locate the suspects, with one individual eventually being taken into custody.
Further closure of the northbound lanes of State Route 87 was necessary from Gilbert Road to Shea Boulevard near Fountain Hills, though the lanes reopened around 5 p.m. the same day, as per an update by AZFamily. It was during this tense backdrop that one suspect was detained while one to two others remain at large, with their descriptions still pending public release. DPS continues the investigation and the search for the remaining perpetrators.
Local authorities have expressed their commitment to bringing all involved to justice, with a spokesperson affirming, "The suspect vehicle took off eventually stopping a mile south of Shea boulevard on State Route 87 where the occupants fled on foot into the desert," as stated to FOX 10 Phoenix. As the situation unfolds, updates will follow, with the public being urged to stay alert and report any information that could potentially aid in the apprehension and prosecution of those still at large.
