Lori Vallow Daybell's numerous legal challenges continue with the latest development in Arizona courts. The "Doomsday Mom", already serving a life sentence in Idaho for the murder of her two children, aimed to dismiss her Arizona case on grounds of not receiving a speedy trial. However, according to FOX 10 Phoenix, an Arizona judge rejected this motion.
In the wake of her Idaho conviction, Vallow Daybell has been accused of conspiracy to commit murder in the death of her former husband, Charles Vallow, and attempted murder of her ex-nephew-in-law, Brandon Boudreaux—charges to be heard in forthcoming Arizona trials. Attempts to quickly dismiss met resistance from the judge, who cited "extraordinary circumstances" that necessitated the trial delays. In his ruling obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix, Judge Justin Beresky emphasized, "Each continuance of the trial date was based on the extraordinary circumstances of the case, and delay was indispensable to the interests of justice."
Vallow Daybell's tangled legal proceedings have also brought her to confront charges in Gilbert for the attempted shooting of her niece's ex-husband, which fortunately did not result in injury. As reported by 12News, a judge has likewise denied Vallow Daybell's effort to throw out this case, further setting the stage for dual, sequential trials in Arizona.
Vallow Daybell, who in December chose to represent herself, has been actively filing motions since doing so. The upcoming Chandler trial related to Charles Vallow's death is scheduled for jury selection starting in March, with the Gilbert case to closely follow. As the judge noted, the trials could happen back-to-back, with the complexity of the cases and the volume of discovery contributing to previous delays. These cases are still ongoing as Vallow Daybell prepares to face her accusers again.
