A tragic vehicular incident in Arlington Heights left a 69-year-old man dead following a T-bone collision this past weekend. According to ABC7 Chicago, the accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Lake Cook Road and Bloomington Avenue when an eastbound BMW M340i, reportedly speeding, slammed into a metallic brown Jeep Grand Cherokee attempting to cross the road.
The impact precipitated a series of rollovers that left the Jeep, operated by the Des Plaines resident, wrecked on its side. Despite the efforts of emergency responders who rushed the man to the hospital in critical condition, the victim succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Sunday. The BMW's driver, an 18-year-old from Deer Park, and his three teenage companions refused medical attention at the scene.
CBS News Chicago reports that local authorities have launched an investigative effort in partnership with the Major Case Assistance Team – Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Specialized Investigative Unit. They assisted in managing the aftermath of the accident, which required the temporary closure of Lake Cook Road between Route 53 and Wilke for several hours to facilitate the investigation.
Details about the potential charges against the young driver remain unclear, but the police have noted the excessive speed of the BMW as a contributing factor in the collision. Meanwhile, personnel from both the Buffalo Grove Fire and Police Departments were present at the crash site, providing initial support as the scene unfolded. There has been no release of identities of those involved in the accident as of yet, with officials stating they will not be identified until families of the victims have been duly informed.
