As temperatures remain cold, the Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) has implemented a Level 2 storm preparation protocol. The city's winter weather event prompted crews to treat roadways with brine, and they are now working 12-hour shifts to maintain safe roads for travel, as per the Atlanta Department of Transportation release.
So far, approximately 430 miles of Priority 1 and 2 roads and 250 bridges have been treated. They began treating Priority 3 roads Saturday last week. The Atlanta Department of Transportation is well-equipped for the weather, with a fleet that includes 26 brine trucks, 13 salt spreaders, and 6 snowplows, along with 2 brine stations. They have used 420 tons of salt and 25,000 gallons of brine, with over 200 employees working to address the conditions.
