Atlanta residents can expect a mix of sunny skies and potential heavy showers over the next several days, as an extended weather forecast outlines a significant shift in weather patterns for the area. According to a report published by the National Weather Service, today's sunny conditions, with a high near 50 degrees, will give way to nights dropping to the low 30s.
The sunny streak is to predominantly continue through the end of the workweek, with tomorrow and Friday both showing highs in the mid-50s. The wind is expected to pick up significantly on Thursday, however, with gusts to possibly peak at 30 mph. Transitioning into the weekend, Atlantans should prepare to quickly bring out their umbrellas, as showers are forecasted to begin after 1 a.m. on Friday night. The rain appears to have the potential to be heavy at times and will likely persist into the weekend.
The National Weather Service has indicated a 100 percent chance of showers for Saturday with a similar high temperature around 54 degrees, suggesting a likelihood for a wet day. The precipitation is set to continue into Saturday night, but with the odds lessening to a 60 percent chance of rain before tapering off.
Looking ahead to the federal holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr., Monday's forecast shows a significant drop in temperature. Citizens can anticipate sunny skies but with highs that are scarcely to break the freezing mark near 32 degrees. The chilly temperatures are forecasted to last into Tuesday with a slight chance of snow showers marking a crisp end to the holiday weekend.
