A major fire broke out at a building under construction in Ogden on the evening of January 24, sending flames shooting into the sky. Ogden Deputy Fire Chief Mike Slater confirmed that the fire started at around 4:39 p.m. at the site of a five-story apartment building, as reported by KSLTV. Firefighters continued battling the inferno late into the evening, with efforts ongoing after 7:00 p.m.
In a separate account, an official from the Ogden Fire Department advised that the fire had been successfully contained to the block across the street from the public safety building. Despite the fearsome display of combusting timber and billowing smoke, a swift response from Ogden Fire personnel was initiated, arriving on the scene merely a minute later, according to ABC4. The incident occurred on 22nd Street between Grant Ave. and Lincoln Ave., causing authorities to shut down the area to traffic and curious onlookers alike.
Ogden Police detectives and ATF investigators have been reported to join forces with the Ogden Fire Department to determine the cause of this disruption. So far no evidence suggests malicious intent or human involvement in the ignition of the flames, the Chief explained. The blaze, which was captured on video in its early stages, has been released to the public, providing a harrowing glimpse into the severity of the situation, as shared by KSLTV.
As a result of the fire, DaVinci School officials have announced the closure of their elementary institution at least through the following Monday to allow for a thorough investigation and cleanup, including the removal of broken glass from the premises. "All things considered, we have a functioning building for the most part," the school's representative, Kortman said, as obtained by KSLTV.
