Brad Griffin has been appointed Interim Manager for Athens-Clarke County, following the approval of Mayor Kelly Girtz and the Commission on Tuesday. Griffin, who recently retired after 24 years as Director of the Planning Department, brings extensive experience in local government to the role, according to the Athens-Clarke County.
Griffin's reputation for building strong relationships with officials, colleagues, and the public was emphasized by Mayor Girtz, who said, "He holds a deep well of knowledge about local government operations and will maintain the positive direction we established under earlier managers" Griffin steps into his new role following the departure of Acting Manager Niki Jones, who will begin a new position with the City of Raleigh, NC, on January 17, as reported by the Athens-Clarke County.
Griffin, returning from a brief retirement, expressed his gratitude, saying "I was honored to be considered for the Interim Manager position during this transition period." With ties to Athens-Clarke County since his time at the University of Georgia and years of service in the Planning Department, he brings valuable experience to the role. As the county begins a national search for a permanent manager, Griffin will serve as interim leader, with Mayor Girtz aiming to recommend a successor by early 2025, as stated by the Athens-Clarke County.
