The search for answers in a fatal Pompano Beach hit-and-run intensifies as the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) turns to the public for help, releasing new surveillance footage. The incident occurred on January 4, around 5:55 a.m. along the 2700 block of West Atlantic Boulevard, resulting in the tragic death of a woman, whose identity remains undisclosed pending notification of next of kin. According to Local 10, the BSO and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to the scene where they discovered the severely injured victim who was later pronounced dead at Broward Health North.
The released video footage showcases the grim reality of the event, as it depicts the woman being hit by what appears to be a dark-colored sedan. There is an active search for the driver, who, witnesses claim, paused briefly after striking the pedestrian, recognized the stricken figure on the road, but then fled northbound on Powerline Road. This key detail, which was reported by NBC Miami in their coverage, adds urgency to the BSO's plea for leads.
As detectives work to piece together the events that led to this tragic loss of life, they believe the vehicle in question will show significant signs of damage. "The sedan likely sustained damage to its hood and possibly the windshield," BSO officials stated, as per Local 10.
BSO Traffic Homicide Detective Carlos De Jesus is the point of contact for tips regarding the incident, and members of the public are encouraged to reach out at 954-321-4842. Tipsters preferring anonymity have the option to pass on information through the SaferWatch app, or by contacting Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477), the latter of which potentially offers a cash reward for information leading to an arrest, in a statement obtained by Local 10.
