As reported by WSVN, the crash took place around 5:55 a.m., Saturday, in the 2700 block of West Atlantic Boulevard, where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.

Responding to the scene, deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue discovered an unidentified woman who had been hit. The victim was quickly transported to Broward Health North but was tragically pronounced dead shortly after her arrival. Local 10 outlined that witnesses observed a dark-colored sedan stop to briefly after the crash before the male driver acknowledged the injured woman on the roadway and then drove away.

Authorities detailed that the initial investigation suggested the pedestrian was walking north across West Atlantic Boulevard when she was hit by a vehicle traveling eastbound. Witnesses reported that the vehicle, believed to be a dark-colored sedan, stopped, according to a statement obtained by Miranda Grossman, a BSO spokeswoman. The male driver exited the vehicle, looked at the pedestrian lying on the roadway, but then got back into the sedan and fled northbound on Powerline Road from West Atlantic Boulevard.
