Heads up, drivers in Buchanan County. If you're planning on heading south on I-229 and need to connect to I-29 north, you're going to need a new game plan next Wednesday. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the southbound I-229 ramp to I-29 north will be off-limits from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for some much-needed bridge approach repairs on Wednesday.
The closure isn't just about the ramp, either. It includes the bridge that takes you from one interstate to the other. So, whether you're a local or just passing through, make sure to sketch out a detour ahead of time. The weather could throw a wrench in MoDOT's plans, as the work is weather-permitting. Their schedules might change on the fly, if Mother Nature says so.
While the inconvenience might irk some commuters, such repairs are critical for the safety and longevity of our infrastructure. MoDOT has issued a call to action, asking drivers to "work with us by always buckling up, keeping your phone down, slowing down and moving over in work zones." It's sage advice that speaks to the shared responsibility between road workers and motorists to maintain safety and order amidst the ever-present hum of progress and repair.
