Calexico CBP Seizes 152 Pounds of Meth in Pickup Truck, Driver Detained for SmugglingSource: U.S. Customs and Border Protection

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Calexico West Port of Entry recently made a significant drug bust. On Sunday evening, they seized 152.20 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in a 2024 pickup truck attempting to cross into the United States from Mexico.

The driver, a 46-year-old man, was referred to a secondary inspection after the initial check by CBP officers. It was during this more comprehensive search that the illicit cargo was discovered. According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the drugs were cleverly concealed under the rear seats, on the floor, and fenders of the vehicle.

A K-9 unit gave the first clue, alerting officers to the truck's rear driver's side area. Subsequently, non-intrusive imaging technology was employed, revealing abnormalities in the vehicle's structure where the drugs were hidden. Upon physical examination, officials found 11 foil-wrapped packages containing methamphetamine. Roque Caza, Area Port Director of Calexico, hailed the discovery as a testament to the officers' diligence and commitment to national security, saying, as per the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, "I am extremely proud of our officers’ exceptional ability to remain steadfast and vigilant while carrying out our mission and keeping our communities safe."
