Cambridge police have arrested Joshua DeWitte, a 49-year-old teacher from Buckingham Browne & Nichols School, on charges related to possessing and distributing child sex abuse images. He was arrested at his home on Mount Auburn Street at 7:45 a.m., as reported by NBC Boston.
DeWitte faces multiple charges, including six counts of distributing obscene material to a minor, one count of distributing child sexual act material, and possession of child pornography. While there is no immediate evidence linking the charges to students from his former employer, Cambridge Public Schools, the police are investigating potential victims. At his arraignment in Cambridge District Court on Thursday, DeWitte pled not guilty and was held on $8,000 bail. Buckingham Browne & Nichols School, where he also worked, confirmed his employment and immediate leave, stating their full cooperation with law enforcement, according to Boston 25 News.
After the arrest of a staff member at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School, Jennifer Price, the school head, said, "We will continue to keep our families apprised of any details we learn and to cooperate fully with the appropriate agencies in their investigation of this matter." The school confirmed that DeWitte had passed background checks and received positive references from previous employers. DeWitte remains in custody as the investigation continues, as stated by NBC Boston.
