A carjacking suspect is currently in stable condition at Skyline Medical Center after being shot by members of the MNPD Violent Crimes Unit in Madison. According to a Nashville government press release, the shooting took place late Tuesday night at the Cumberland Crossing Apartments on Rio Vista Drive.
Jason P. Brown, a 20-year-old resident of Backstretch Boulevard in Antioch, is the wounded suspect whom Detective Brian Quigley and Officer Zachary Wright, with nearly six and two and a half years in the MNPD respectively, engaged after spotting him. Wearing a marked police vest while surveilling the stolen green Mercury Marquis sedan, which was backed into a parking space at the complex, Brown walked towards the apartment building holding a gun, as per the MNPD. Despite Detective Quigley's commands, the stolen car taken on Cheyenne Boulevard during an armed carjacking on Sunday night, Brown continued moving before dropping his gun less than a second before Quigley opened fire with Officer Wright following suit.
The victim of the carjacking reported to authorities that he was robbed of his phone and car keys on Sunday night, while visiting his mother. The car had been under observation by officers and detectives since the incident occurred. When located, the original license plate had been replaced with a temporary tag. Caught in the late Tuesday incident, Brown was known to be on supervised probation at the time for an attempted auto theft conviction in 2023, as reported by the MNPD.
Following the shooting, standard procedure dictated the involvement of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to lead into the ensuing inquiry. As per policy, both Detective Quigley and Officer Wright have been assigned to administrative duties during the investigation, Nashville officials stated.
