With a crisp chill in the air, outdoor construction might seem an unlikely sight, but not for the Carver County Parks team hard at work on the Merriam Junction Regional Trail. Despite the wintry conditions, the team has pushed forward with significant progress, recently completing a vital phase in the much-anticipated trail's development. According to a post on their official Facebook page, construction crews have successfully wrapped up the causeway construction needed for the bridge spanning the Minnesota River.
This is no small feat, especially with Jack Frost nipping at the noses of the dedicated builders, but the progress continues. Not only have the causeways been finished, but the Parks team is also moving full steam ahead with substructure work on the other three bridges located on the Scott County side. As the project evolves, anticipation grows like a snowdrift among local outdoor enthusiasts. Not to mention, the teams are prepping to install a temporary bridge, with the functional purpose of facilitating construction access across the river during the main bridge's erection.
Carver County Parks shared their enthusiasm for the build's next steps, “Crews will soon be installing a temporary bridge between the causeways to allow construction access across the Minnesota River during the main bridge construction.” It's a logistical move that clearly indicates the project is moving from the foundational stages to the more complex aspects of structural work.
The Merriam Junction Regional Trail remains a talked-about addition to the county's recreational offerings, promising miles of scenic trails for bikers, hikers, and nature lovers alike. Local residents eagerly anticipate the completion of this trail system, sure to add even more allure to the region's natural landscape. The spotlight of such efforts, the bridge over the Minnesota River is poised to become a centerpiece of outdoor activity and community engagement in Carver County once complete. Crews, in tackling the cold, are ensuring outdoor plans for following seasons will have a fresh destination to add to their lists.
