Casa Grande is on the move, quite literally, with the Trekell Road Improvement Project set to break ground this coming Monday, January 20. The city is investing $5.8 million to widen a stretch of Trekell Road, aiming to alleviate congestion and improve safety for the long haul, as reported by the City of Casa Grande.
Stretching from Rodeo Road to McCartney Road, the trek to overhaul this key thoroughfare will span approximately eight months. The City has plans to widen the road from two lanes to four between Avenida Luna and McCartney Road and insert a two-way left turn lane, according to a recent announcement. The project's scope doesn't end at widening. The removal and replacement of the existing road pavement will take place, alongside new installations that include curbs, gutters, driveways, and a median in proximity to Casa Grande Union High School. Infrastructure isn't being left out of this update either; box culverts, catch basins, traffic signals, streetlights, and more pedestrian-friendly sidewalks designed to meet ADA compliance are all part of the upgrade, promising to make this stretch more accepting for all modes of transportation.
Motorists should prepare to grit their teeth a bit; traffic delays are expected, and the city is asking drivers to coexist cautiously with construction crews that'll be laboring close to traffic flow. Despite the construction, one lane in each direction is slated to always stay open, but bikers will need to share these lanes with cars as their designated lanes will temporarily cease to exist. Additionally, traffic fines will double in the construction zone to deter the possibly riskier behavior, so be wary where you park. Work hours for the project are set from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
