Motorists in Chariton County will need to find new routes temporarily as the Mussel Fork Creek Bridge on Route D is replaced. The project, initially set to begin on Monday next week, will now start on February 3. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) release confirmed the delay and aims to complete the project by June 2025.
About 191 vehicles cross the bridge daily, which has connected Marceline and Keytesville since 1947. Michael Marriott, MoDOT Project Director, said in the same release, "The Northwest Bridge Bundle is a Design-Build project which will replace or rehabilitate 31 poor-condition bridges in north central Missouri, and this bridge is number 14."
The Design-Build method being used allows one contracting team to manage both the design and construction, improving efficiency in time and budget. The Capital – Horner & Shifrin team, awarded the contract in December 2023, is handling the project.
For more information or updates on traffic rerouting, the full list of bridges being replaced or repaired is available on the Northwest Bridge Bundle web page. Weather conditions may impact the work schedule.
