A 44-year-old Chicago man, Robert Brandt, is facing serious charges related to aggravated vehicular hijacking and kidnapping, according to the Chicago Police Department. Detailed in an official press release found on the department's website, Brandt, from the 6100 block of S. Ellis, was arrested on Tuesday, in connection with a crime that occurred last year.
Authorities have charged Brandt with one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm, one felony count of kidnapping while armed with a firearm, and another count for aggravated kidnapping with a firearm, the Chicago Police Department's news release states. These charges stem from an incident reported on August 18, 2024, where Brandt allegedly participated in the armed restraint and subsequent hijacking of a vehicle from two victims, a 35-year-old male and a 35-year-old female, in the 3500 block of W. 45th Pl.
The detention hearing for Brandt took place at 2600 S. California. During the incident in question, Brandt and potentially other unknown individuals are said to have forcefully taken control of the victim's vehicle at gunpoint, a situation that sees an ongoing investigation as authorities work to uncover further details and determine if additional suspects are at large.
