The Chicago Police Department has ramped up its presence around Trump International Hotel & Tower, this comes in the wake of a Tesla Cybertruck explosion near Trump Tower in Las Vegas, a disturbing incident currently under federal investigation for links to terrorism, according to CBS Chicago.
While Chicago law enforcement officials have not identified any direct threats targeting their city’s Trump-branded property, a spokesperson for the CPD acknowledged the increased police patrols in the downtown area, maintaining vigilance and readiness despite the absence of actionable intelligence suggesting a threat, and in the light of the Las Vegas blast which resulted in one death and seven injuries, NBC Chicago reports.
The Las Vegas incident, termed as an isolated incident by Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, showed no immediate ties to ISIS, though it followed closely on the heels of a grimmer attack in New Orleans, where a truck driver plowed purposefully into a crowd on Bourbon Street, leaving at least 15 individuals dead, an act underscored by the chilling discovery of an ISIS flag amidst weapons and an improvised explosive device in the wreckage.
While officials thread through the details of these complex investigations, the tenuous thread linking the attacks remains the subject of speculation.
