A spree of bold burglaries has swept through Chicago's neighborhoods of Auburn Gresham, Greater Grand Crossing, Roseland, and the South Side, with perpetrators targeting businesses and making off with ATMs. The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert detailing recent incidents in the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 22nd Districts, where unknown offenders have forcefully removed front doors to gain entry into the establishments.
According to the Chicago Police Department, these bold crimes have been carried out by 4-8 unknown offenders described as wearing dark clothing, including hoodies and masks. In some cases, the burglars wielded firearms. The crimes occurred across four separate locations in December 2024, with timestamps ranging from 4:43 a.m. to 5:20 a.m. A pertinent video of one such burglary attempt is available for public viewing, prompting local business owners to heighten their vigilance and security measures.
Specific incidents include a break-in on the 8800 block of S. Ashland in Auburn Gresham on December 17, and successive burglaries on December 24 on the 100 block of E. 75th St. in Greater Grand Crossing and the 100 block W. 103rd St. in Roseland. The string of burglaries continued with an event on the 1600 block of W. 115th St. on the South Side on December 25, as detailed by the Chicago Police Department.
