Residents and business owners in the Printer's Row neighborhood are on alert after the Chicago Police Department reported a series of commercial burglaries. According to a community alert, two incidents occurred within minutes of each other in the early Saturday morning when an unidentified individual broke into businesses on the 600 block of S. Wabash Ave.
The burglar reportedly shattered the glass of front windows or doors to gain entry and then proceeded to steal cash from the business registers; the alert detailed the offender as an African American male, donning a tan jacket, black jeans, black gym shoes, and a black ski mask, the CPD urges the community to keep their surroundings well-lit and secure, report any suspicious activity, and maintain functioning surveillance systems.
To increase awareness and tighten security, the police are asking businesses to collaborate by reporting any similar occurrences, making sure that broken windows, doors, or locks are promptly fixed and any surveillance video of the events should be saved and handed over to the detectives working on the case. They also stress the importance of not tampering with the crime scene before officers arrive in case of a burglary.
