A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody Wednesday night by a Chicago Police Department SWAT team after an attempted armed robbery in the Armour Square neighborhood, according to both the Chicago Sun-Times and FOX 32 Chicago. The incident reportedly began just before 8:20 p.m. when the boy attempted to rob a 60-year-old man at gunpoint.
The altercation occurred in a 200 block of West Pershing Road, where the youth struggled with his intended victim and, upon fleeing, discharged his weapon, although no one was struck by the bullets. Chicago police informed that officers responding to the scene attempted to engage the armed teenager, who subsequently ran into a nearby residence, escalating the situation to involve the SWAT team.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the boy emerged from the home "a short while later" and was arrested without further incident. The entire event unfolded without any reported injuries, and the juvenile now faces accountability for his actions with Area One detectives continuing the investigation. FOX 32 Chicago added that the young suspect had been seen with a handgun by responding officers before his retreat inside the home, which led to the tactical response.
