While many Cincinnati residents celebrated the joy of Christmas morning, the Glick family, proprietors of Jack's Used Auto Parts on Kellogg Avenue in the East End, were dealing with a decidedly grim scenario. In a brazen burglary, thieves drove a Dodge Charger and other vehicles through the salvage yard's gates and made off with valuable property. The incident, which included using a hot-wired golf cart to facilitate the theft, resulted in approximately $40,000 in damages and stolen goods.
According to a FOX19 report, the thieves took items and left a destruction trail. Joseph Glick, president of Glick Management, detailed the series of events, which culminated in the suspects abandoning and setting fire to a Ford F-150 truck in Delhi. "I didn’t expect them to light it on fire, but that's... they were trying to cover their tracks for a small amount of money," Glick told reporters. Despite the shock of discovery, the Glick family was quick to initiate a response, offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the culprits' arrest.
While the culprits' motives may never truly be understood, the Glicks reflected on the impact of the crime. "I’m more disappointed that somebody would be at that point in their life, or that low in their life, to destroy or be willing to destroy $40,000 worth of stuff in order to get maybe a couple thousand dollars by the time they sell it at 30 cents on the dollar, 20 cents on the dollar," Joe Glick said in a Local12 interview. To prevent future incidents, the business has now escalated its security measures, installing real-time cameras with instant alerts and fortifying the yard with barricaded fences.
Those with knowledge of the burglary or whereabouts of the stolen property are encouraged to contact Cincinnati Police District 2 at 513-979-4400 or Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.
