After ongoing safety concerns and legal pressure, a settlement has been reached between the City of Kent and the Phoenix Court Apartments management, resolving conflicts that have lingered since the City urged action against the complex’s rising criminal activities in 2023. According to the City of Kent's official website, the agreement was met following a lawsuit filed by the City in the 2023 summer, presenting claims that the apartment was a constant public and criminal nuisance.
The City's lawsuit, which was initiated on August 15, 2023, prompted the apartment owners and managers to install new security features and enact various improvements; these steps have significantly reduced the issues that were pervasive at the property, crime was all over the place before and disquiet amongst residents was a common thing, but now, there's been a turnaround. This settlement mandates the continuation and enhancement of these security measures to prevent future nuisances. In the event of renewed disturbances, the involved parties have agreed that swift action will be taken to manage the nuisance.
With the conditions of the settlement embraced, the City took steps to dismiss the lawsuit, a motion which the Court granted on January 24. The resolution of this issue is regarded by the City as a commitment towards improving public safety for the residents of Kent.
As stated on Kent’s news release, "The City of Kent acknowledges and is appreciative of the efforts taken by the owners and managers of the Phoenix Court Apartments to improve the property’s condition and for their commitment to continue those efforts," which signifies a constructive move in resolving safety issues, it's a major relief for residents around the Phoenix Court area, and there's some hope now for a little peace and quiet. Residents and members of the local community can now expect the maintenance of a safer living environment at the Phoenix Court Apartments.
