Upcoming renovations will see the Coconut Grove Metrorail Station close for roughly four months starting January 21. The upgrades are designed to modernize the experience for transit users, with new features such as updated elevators, escalators, granite benches, restrooms, way-finding signs, and ADA-compliant amenities, according to Miami-Dade County's official news release.
The refurbishment is a part of the larger Grove Central project, focused on enhancing connectivity within the Coconut Grove area. Previous improvements at the station have already been implemented, the station is set to reopen in spring 2025, signaling a significant stride toward the initiative's completion. However, during the renovation period, Metrorail services will bypass the Coconut Grove Station, Miami-Dade County reported.
Efforts to minimize the impact on commuters include a free shuttle bus service that will operate between Douglas Road and Coconut Grove stations, ensuring a seamless transit experience during this transition. Additionally, the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) has organized a complimentary ride-share service with partners such as Freebee, which will operate daily, including weekends, from 5 a.m. to midnight and provide connections to the Douglas Road and Vizcaya stations.
Transit users who drive can find parking at Grove Central’s garage on level P2, while the construction is underway. This development forms part of a comprehensive, transit-oriented community plan set out by DTPW aimed at meeting the needs of expanding neighborhoods, the county's statement detailed.
