The Maple Grove Police Department recently capped off its annual department meeting with a keynote address from a trailblazer in both the military and leadership spheres, Lt. Col. (ret.) Tracy LaTourrette. According to an announcement on the Maple Grove Police Department Facebook page, LaTourrette shared her insights on leadership and resilience with the Maple Grove PD staff as well as city officials.
LaTourrette's résumé speaks for itself; she’s Colorado’s First Lady Fighter Pilot and boasts an extensive career as an F-16 Fighter pilot. With her grounding in the Air Force Academy—a place she chose because she wanted to "surround myself with those that have a habit of excellence"—she brought a wealth of experience to the Minnesota law enforcement agency. "You become who you associate with … I wanted to surround myself with those that have a habit of excellence," the lieutenant colonel said of her education and career choices.
The annual meeting serves as a touchpoint for the department to reinforce its commitment to serving the community, with leadership and resiliency being key themes of this year's event. The ideals of strength and robust leadership are not new to the forces dwelt within the Maple Grove Police Department but having them echoed by a figure like LaTourrette certainly adds a distinct dimension.
An aspect of the meeting not to be overlooked was the backdrop provided by The Grove Church and their volunteers, whose efforts were credited for creating an optimal environment for the presentation. As stated in the department's post, "Thank you, Tracy, for giving our agency valuable lessons to strengthen our leadership abilities and personal resiliency that enhances our agency’s capacity to serve the residents and visitors of Maple Grove!" Such partnerships between law enforcement and local institutions remain a cornerstone of community engagement.
