A tense situation unfolded in Conifer on Friday when a barricaded gunman prompted a shelter-in-place order, as reported by the Denver7. The incident occurred in the 12000 block of Critchell Lane and was confirmed by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) via social media at approximately 3:29 p.m.
The KDVR reported that residents within a 1/4 mile radius were asked to stay inside and secure their homes, as deputies worked to resolve the situation. According to a LookoutAlert sent out to the community, this was a precautionary measure while law enforcement officials were on the scene.
By 5:34 p.m., the situation had ended in tragedy. The sheriff's office updated the public, stating that the individual had died by "apparent suicide," as per their social media post. The shelter-in-place order was subsequently lifted allowing residents to leave their homes freely once again.
