Coon Rapids is set to sparkle with winter festivities as it gears up for the 61st annual Snowflake Days, a beloved community event that's poised to transform the city into a veritable wonderland from January 31 to February 9.
The celebration is slated to officially kick off with a community medallion hunt and the final day to register for the much-anticipated Snow Sculpture Contest on January 31. Kids and adults alike will be able eagerly to create and showcase their icy masterpieces. A friendly rivalry will heat the ice on February 2 when the local police face off against firefighters in a hockey game that's about as Minnesotan as it gets, details were published on the city's website.
For those with a competitive streak or a simply good appetite, the Chili Challenge on February 3 is sure to please, as local cooks battle it out to see whose recipe can reign supreme. The city website notes that the Senior Snowflake Party on February 7 will provide an opportunity for the more experienced crowd to mingle and revel in the winter joys.
Sand Creek Park is prepped to become a hub for winter fun on February 8. A medallion hunt for kids is just one of the activities on the agenda. To make a cozy end to the festival, everyone can come together for a Waffle Breakfast & Senior Bake Sale, followed by Family Fun Day at the Coon Rapids Ice Center on February 9.
